As the periodic emission of light pulses by light emitting diodes (LEDs) is known to stimulate growth or induce high value biocompounds in microalgae, this flashing light regime was tested on growth and biochemical composition of the microalgae Nannochloropsis gaditana, Koliella antarctica and Tetraselmis chui. BACKGROUND Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory disease with high burden. Treatment options are often unsatisfactory. We assessed the effect of a combination therapy of intense pulsed light (IPL) and radiofrequency (RF). METHODS The explorative study included 47 patients and was performed as a prospective, monocentric, randomized, three-arm parallel-group design trial with a prior 12 weeks observation period. Treatment arms were IPL and RF monotherapies or IPL + RF combination therapy. After 12 weeks, all patients received IPL + RF for additional 12 weeks (cross-over). Contact and contactless diffuse reflectance spectroscopy: potential for recovery monitoring of vascular lesions after intense pulsed light treatment.

Optical fiber contact probe diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and remote multispectral imaging methods in the spectral range of 400 to 1100 nm were used for skin vascular malformation assessment and recovery tracing after treatment by intense pulsed light. The results confirmed that oxy-hemoglobin relative changes and the optical density difference between lesion and healthy skin in the spectral region 500 to 600 nm may be successfully used for objective appraisal of the therapy effect. Darbs ir uzrakstīts angļu valodā uz 41 lappusēm. Tajā ir 20 attēli, 10 tabulas un 45 atsauces. Abstrakts Pētījumā tika salīdzinātas trīs dažādas Sausās Acs Sindroma (SAS) ārstēšanas metodes. Pētījuma mērķis bija atrast visefektīvāko metodi vieglas, vidēji smagas un smagas pakāpes SAS ārstēšanā. Terapija tika veikta ar trīs ārstēšanas metodēm - mākslīgajām asarām, siltajām kompresēm un Lacrystim. Pēc statistiskās analīzes tika secināts, ka Lacrystim instrumentālā metode ir visefektīvākā sausās acs sindroma ārstēšanā visās smaguma pakāpēs. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photodepilation is usually performed as a hair removal method. The treatment is recommended to be indicated by a physician, depending on each patient and on its characteristics. The aim of this project was to study the UVc resistance of Bacillus subtilis spores. The first part of this project focused on the dipicolinic acid molecule (DPA) which is known to be involved in the UV resistance of spores. However, some points remain unresolved. In particular, it is known that this molecule forms fluorescent photoproducts (DPAp), which were not identified at the beginning of this project. No information concerning the role of these DPAp in UVC resistance was available at that time.
